Trichoscopy / Scalp Scan

Trichoscopy is a non-invasive digital method using a camera allowing hair and scalp evaluation this enables a personalised diagnosis and treatment plans for conditions including:

  • Alopecia areata
  • Androgenic alopecia
  • Telogen effluvium
  • Frontal fibrosing alopecia
  • Scalp psoriasis
  • Seborrheic dermatitis
  • Male and female pattern hair loss.
  • Cicatricial Alopecia
  • Tricotillosis

It can also be used to monitor the progression of these conditions over time, and to assess the effectiveness of treatments

What can I expect at the consultation?

A Trichoscope examination produces highly magnified images of the follicle/hair shaft and scalp using a specialised camera, this visually helps determine the health of the hair follicle .

During the process, the hair and scalp should  clean and dry,  then the camera is placed directly onto the scalp. The camera produces close-up images of the scalp hair and follicles, which can then be analysed to assess hair density, hair thickness, hair growth rate, and hair loss patterns.

Overall, a trichoscopic examination is a useful tool for dermatologists and hair specialists in evaluating the health of the hair and scalp. It is actually fascinating to see your scalp at such high magnification, and can help you to understand and support your treatment pathway.
